Trailer Analysis Essay
I chose to analyse this trailer because there were alot of things that are presented, that can be focused on; the use of lighting, sound, camera angels and the editing.
As soon as the trailer starts, the lighting is low key, it stays like this throughout the whole of the trailer, this is because ir is relevent to the genre, the film is a horror film, the darkness creates an intense atmosphear which is necassery, because it informs the viewer that the film is going to be scary. Also, it helps to create shadows, and make the film look more mysterious, which makes you want to watch the film.
There is some editing in the trailer. There is alot of use of fade. This is done to change from clip to clip. also in some bits, it is used to change from writing on the screen to action from the film, for example in the begining of the trailer, short sentances are written to tell us about the film, and short clips from the film are shown as well, this is to give us information on what the film is about, and makes the trailer appear more organised, with the use of fade.
The use of both digetic and non digetic sound is used. The digetic sound is the dialouge. We dont hear to much of this, just a few bits, for example; we see a pysco and hear him threatening some young teenagers, we also hear the teenagers talking, and thier tones of voice are scared and they speak at a slow pace; this use of narrative enigma makes the audience want to watch the film, because they wonder why the characters sound worried and scared. The non diegetic sound is the music over the film; it starts of with a creepy slow beat, this creates suspence and an uncomfertable atmosphear, it creates curiosity. This then changes to heavy metal, this is done, because heavy metal tends to be known as evil and scary, this is relevent to the genre of the film, and it informs the target audience, people who enjoy scary films, that this film will be horrific. Another non diegtic sound, is the heart beat and foot steps, this also creates an intence atmosphear, it creates a fright, which is what the film is supposed to do, this informs us that the film will be scary, and is eye catching to people who enjoy scary films.
The camera work varifies in diffrent types of shots. There are many close ups, take for example, you see a girls eyes, as she crys on the screen- this gives the audience the feeling that something bad has happened, and makes them want to know what it is. Also the use of close up is used to focus on the pysco's facial expression- which is angry, this is also makes us wonder why he is angry. The shots that we see are quite short, about a second long at maximum- this is to create a narative enigma. Also it is so that the trailer doesn't drag on for to long, so it only focuses on the important parts.
Moving on, when looking at the mise en scene, you can see that the costume that the teenagers are wearing, are your everyday clothing, this gives the film a sence of reality, it is supposed to scare you in to thinking this could happen to any one. The use of make up was used to make the pysco look more scary, as if he had cuts and bruises on his face, this shows he has had a bad experience and makes the viewer wonder why. At one point in the trailer we see a fire. Fires are a sign on distruction, mayhem, unfortunate events, they usual refelect a negative impact, this indicates that the film will carry out all of these features. In the film the teenagers are supposed to be lost, and through out the whole trailer, you can't really tell where the events are taking place, i think this alows you to feel the same way the teenagers do, confused, and unaware of what is around you becuase it is so dark, this creates a spooky atmosphear.
The title of the film is given to us at the end of the film, this is so that is stays in our head, and also, at the end of the trailer we know that the film is scary, and once we see the title we understand why it has this name. It is easy to remeber because of the use of alliteration helps us to remember the name.

trailer analysis
The lightin is used well, because in some bits it is dark, this tends to be during the night time, this informs the viewers that here will be some scenes with suspence, and other scenes are shot in daylight, this is to allow you to see what is hapening clearly.
The camera angles are varified. Some are long shot and some are zoomed in. The long shots are used to alow the audience to see everything. The parts that are zoomed in, are used to alow you to see the characters facial expresions at the time- this is to highlite any events that mite take place, take fore example if a character looks angry this makes the audience want to know why he looks angry and makes you want to watch the film,or in a few cases, when someone is writing lyrics on to a piece of paper. This helps you to gain understanding of what happens in the film.
There is a sound track played through out the whole of the trailer. It is a beat to a grime/rap song, this is because it is relevent to the theme of the film, and it is a quite intense beat, this causes tention and makes the viewer want to watch the film.
The length of the trailer is quite short, but long enough to give us information about what the film is about. Some clips that are shown are fast, and some are slow. Most of the time, they are syncronised with the beat of the music in the background. The longer shots tend to be the important ones, for example when a boy picks up a flyer about a rap battle, we see this shot for a long time so that we can understand what is going on, and it gives as an insite on what is going to happen in the film.
There is no narative in the trailer, sometimes you hear dialouge from the charcters, this gives us acknowledgment of what is happening in the film and alows us to build up a story line on our own. At the end there is a voice over, that tells us the name of the film and that it is in cinemas now, this information is said because it helps you to remember the name of the film and so that it is clear that you can go and watch it now.
The language that we here the actors speaking, is london ghetto/slang. This is becuase the film is set in london, in urban areas were slang is spoken, it is used, so that the film appeals to its target audience.
When talking about the mise en scene we can say that, most of the scenes are shhot outside, this indicates that the film involves some form of street life. We also see some clips in a recording booth, this is because the film is about rapping so it is relevent to the theme. Another clip we see is on the train, this shows that the events verified and taken in different places.
There are not alot of props shown in the trailer. One of them is a glass bottle that is thrown. After is has been thrown it is reveresed backwords, this is to make sure that the bottle being thrown was established, good use of camera tricks. They used a glas bottle to show an element of violence, and frustration, this is an indication to the fact that it easy to make it as a rapper.

individual case study
Continuing on from Kidulthood, Adulthood is a about the youth of today, and how they handle growing up from teenagers to young adults, including going through experiences such as, college, uni, sex, drugs and violence. It helps to gain an in site to the involvement of the generation of young adults today.
The film can be ages at various age groups, but is mainly focused on teenagers/ young adults, aged 15-21. This is because they may be able to relate to the situations and events that take place. Also, due to the fact that the film high lites a lot of wrong turns that teenagers make in life, the film may influence them to do better and inspire them to do things differently. The film may even also appeal to an older age group such as parents, because the film allows them to acknowledge reality for young teens these days.
The trailer shows the main characters in the film, and they are young adults, this would attract other Young adults to watch the film. It opens with a girl talking about how she wanted to grow up when she was little, and there are a lot of girls that can relate to this, so this attracts them to the film.
You can tell from the language ( ghetto slang) that the characters use in the play, that they are young and have experienced life in a more middle/ working class way, this would attract others from the same class to the film, also young kids that use that sort of language would want to watch the film.
In the trailer you see short shots of scenes involving guns and violence, this is action code, it informs us that the film has action scenes in it, and because you only see a few seconds, you want to see more, this encourages the target audience to want to see the film.
In some shots, writing is used to inform you on what the film is about, this is good because it allows the viewer to concentrate on the trailer, and understand what is going on, also it gives an in site to what is going to happen in the film, and this is more encouragement to make people want to watch the film.
The lighting in the advert is verified. Majority of the time, it tends to be dark, this is so that it is obvious that the events taking place aren't light hearted, they are upsetting, and focus on the corrupted issues that the young adults go through. Lighting in the film, is used to create shadows on the actors faces, this is to cause suspense, and mystery to the scene, making you want to know what is going to happen.

My proposal is, that Venus magazine should hold a competition that involves the consumer that uses your products.
The competition would consist of, the reader filling out a short questionnaire about Clinique products, one of these will be chosen at random, and the person whose questionnaire is chosen, shall be the winner, and receive vouchers for Clinique products.
The questionnaire will focus on, finding out what kind of products are the most popular in your range, why they appeal to women, and how people rate your products, also you can find out what women think of many things about your products such as; packaging, products sizes, prices and your range in gift packs. Furthermore, the questionnaire will give you an in site on what consumers would like to an improvement of within your products.
I am asking you to provide the vouchers, to the value of £150. This is because I think the questionnaire is a marketing advantage for you to gain knowledge of what your consumers think of your products, what is to their preference and this will allow you to further your understanding of needs and wants that you should focus on for your target consumer.
It could also participate to an increase in your sales, because; the competition is promoting Clinique, readers have the opportunity to experience your products. Plus there will be a lot of readers who would participate in the competition because they have nothing to lose, and they still get the satisfaction that their opinion is being put forward.
Moreover, the target audience for Venus, are women, who are independent, care for their image and enjoy keeping up their appearance, use brand named products, and use skin care products in their daily routine.
I hope you will entertain this proposal, and allow the consumer that uses your products to have a voice.

My Ideas on how to regulate the internet
I think that thier should be a new organisation, that is promoted so that it becomes well known, so that people are aware that it is safe, and to stop others from putting up offensive stuff on the internet. An organisation with power to scan what it being put on the internet and stop certain things from being published.
It would be regulated and moniterd by some one searching the key things that should be stopped, or having a devise that observes what is being carried out online
I think that thier should be an internet regulation, to make people feel more confident about using the internet, to make it safer to put personal information up, and to avoid people getting offended by what they see online. I think that there should be a sytstem that helps to observe what is being put on the internet and ban anything that isn't appropriate.
There are internet regulation bodies, that keep everything in order on the internet and run 'semi smoothly, they are: The internet society, The internet archutecture board and The internet engineering task board.
An anthropological introduction to YouTube
There are 9232 hours uploaded on Youtube daily. Almost 400 are always tv channels, 88% of content on youtube is origional.
Web cam:
Web cams allow you to record yourself, and youtubes further this and allows you to put it on the internet and communicate to others all over the world.
"The machine is using us":
This video was made, to inform us, that the internet is linking people together.
The research team:
10 under graduate student, get together every spring and study youtube. They wouldwatch a youtube video and take notes that go to a database.
Who is on Youtube?:
25% of people in youtube videos are aged 35 or over. Anohter 25% are 12-17. The most popular age group is 18-24.
What is on Youtube?:
Most of the videos on youtube are home made. Take for example to the song soldier boy was first posted on youtube, and 4 months later, the song was recognised and the boy who made the video got a contract with a record lable. There are lots of vidoes that are popular and many people watch them daily, sometimes more than once!
Youtube as a community.
*Most people dont know who they are talking to
*Youtube users start of saying "hey youtube". why?
BECAUSE community has broken, and youtube alows us to communicate.
Aesthetic Arrest:
*People can do what they want and watch videos.
Youtube - People Connecting
"Media Do Not Just Distance Us . . They Connect Us In Different Ways . . That Can Sometimes Feel Distant . . But Sometimes Distance Allows Us To Connect More Deeply Than Ever Before"
Cultural Inversion:
New forms of network community are emurging; mobiles, internet. We are all becoming inndividual and independent but still long for comunincation, and youtube is 'shaped by this.
Participent Observation:
This is the core of thier methodology. It is when you participate in something that you are observing. The research team did this with youtue, they were blogging, looking at videos to understand the new forms of comunication such as web cams.
Vlogs:
*People are talking to themselves when they up load vidoes!
*You dont know what to say and what people would think back.
"Every body is watching were nobody is"
It feels private when you are recording, because its just you, but it becomes public because so many people are able to watch you.
Recognition and new forms of self awareness:
Youtube is a good place to study yourself.
"You know others will be looking at you, but at the time nobody is there"
Watching Youtube:
You can express your views on people without making them feel awkward, and it helps people to show thier deep connection with others.
Connection without constraint
